As a reminder, the final exam is on Wednesday 12/11 from 4:30-7:15pm. As discussed in the last lecture, there will be 2 parts to the final. The first part is worth 25% and you will have to work this part without using books, notes, or calculators. This part of the exam will emphasize conceptual problems, rather than number-crunching. You will have up to 1 hour to complete this part (I'll collect them at the end of one hour).
The second part of the final will be worth 75%. For this part, you may use 3 8.5x11 sheets of notes and your calculators. No books are allowed.
I will hand out both parts at once, so that you can decide how to budget your time. (i.e., you can decide to spend less than one hour on the first part, if you choose).
I will have some extra office hours this week and next. Here is a list of all my office hours times:
As mentioned in the last lecture, there will be one more opportunity for extra credit after the final exam. You can earn 5 bonus points to be added to your final exam score if you're willing to come in for a 20-25 minute interview after the final. In the interview, I'll ask you some simple questions about how you approached the problems on the exam. The purpose of the interview is to give me some insight about which topics in the course are the most difficult to learn. I won't be grading your answers to the interview questions. You'll earn the 5 bonus points just for showing up.
The interviews will take place on Thursday (12/12) and Friday (12/13). The list of times was emailed late Friday (12/6) afternoon. I'll post a signup sheet on my office door on Monday. Until then you can email me with your preferred time. If you want to do the interview, I will make sure that we find a time to meet.
