Department Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, one of the oldest and largest departments in the Volgenau School of Engineering.

The department was established more than 35 years ago, initially offering a degree in electronics engineering.

Through the years, we've added more programs and now have close to 1,000 students across our seven undergraduate and graduate programs combined.

Some students choose to pursue dual degrees or minors to complement their degrees. We offer the opportunity for students to perform multidisciplinary senior design projects, as well as the option to take courses in other programs as electives.

Thousands of students have graduated from our accredited programs and gone on to prosperous careers in engineering and related fields.

Thirty-one full-time faculty and many adjunct faculty support the educational and research aspirations of our students.

Our industry advisory board provides valuable direction and insight to our department and its initiatives.

We also support other Mason Engineering programs through our interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in both education and research.

Monson H. Hayes, ECE professor and chair

Monson H. Hayes, chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, developed and delivered numerous professional education courses, has served as a consultant to industry, and has worked with law firms as an expert witness in patent litigation cases.

Our researchers are deeply connected with faculty in other programs, and this synergistic approach enriches and strengthens the depth and scope of our research across our areas of expertise.

We invite you to visit us and discover our world-class faculty and facilities.
