Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Jill Nelson has been elected to the IEEE Education Society Board of Governors. The IEEE Education Society is an international organization that promotes, advances, and disseminates state-of-the-art scientific information and resources related to the society’s field of interest and provides professional development opportunities for academic and industry professionals.

Nelson’s association with the society spans more than a decade of service. She has been active in IEEE through a variety of roles, including as a Member-at-Large of the IEEE Education Society Board of Governors from 2020-2022. She filled leadership roles as Chair of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 2010-2011 and as the Vice Chair in 2009. In addition, she served as the Finance Chair of the 2016 IEEE Global Conference on Signal and Information Processing (GlobalSIP). Nelson shared her passion for her field and the future of the workforce by acting as a featured speaker in the IEEE Signal Processing Society Careers in Signal Processing video series and as the faculty advisor to the IEEE Student Chapter at George Mason University from 2006-2020.
